Annual conferences

A key activity of the network is to hold yearly conferences.

Since 2010, we have held annual meetings at various European academic institutions. In 2020 we held our first online conference.

Conferences are thematic and pre-read. With about 25 participants from various disciplines, including law, economics, and philosophy, some people mastering not only one but two or even three of these, and much diversity in terms of seniority as well, we devote most of the time to discussion, both in themed sessions and informally.

In our experience, it is this variety of backgrounds and intellectual partnership that makes the MetaLawEcon workshops worthwhile in the first place. Generating a forum where researchers who would otherwise not know about each other have the opportunity to exchange new, sometimes unpolished ideas and engage in self-reflection about their own discipline(s).

Perhaps the main appeal of these conferences is that they provide a forum to discuss questions that are at the intersections of disciplines, in particular of Jurisprudence Law and Economics, Philosophy of Economics - specialist sub-disciplines that communicate less than they perhaps should.
